The staff

Coaches who build swimmers for life

Our staff combines decades of competitive experience, certified coaching education, and a shared belief that great swimming starts with great people.

Our coaching philosophy

We coach swimmers, not just strokes. Every practice is built around the long arc of an athlete's development: physical literacy in the early years, aerobic and technical depth in the middle years, and race-specific performance when swimmers are ready to chase big goals.

Progression is personal. Some swimmers arrive ready for national cuts; others are taking their first confident laps across the pool. Both deserve a coach who sees where they are, communicates clearly, and designs a path forward.

Person first

Trust and communication come before training load.

Long-term development

We build durable athletes, not short-term results.

Racing as a skill

Strategy, pacing, and mental prep are trained like technique.

Head Coach / Program Director

Riley Moore

ASCA Level 5 · 22 seasons · Former national team staff

We measure progress in habits before we measure it in seconds. The clock always catches up.

Riley believes that championship swimming is built in the habits swimmers form Monday through Friday. Every practice is designed around three non-negotiables: body position, tempo awareness, and mental readiness.

Before taking the helm at Aquatics Team, Riley spent eight years on national team staff, working with Olympic Trials finalists and developing the progression systems now used across the club. That experience shaped a simple coaching rule: train the person first, the athlete second.

At home poolside, Riley mentors the coaching staff, oversees group placements, and leads the senior national group. Swimmers know Riley's practices are precise, demanding, and never boring.

Jonas Field, National Group Coach

National Group Coach

Jonas Field

ASCA Level 4 · 14 seasons · NCAA All-American

Racing is a skill. We train the details so the big moments feel automatic.

Jonas coaches the National Group with one clear mission: turn fast training into confident racing. His sessions blend high-volume aerobic work with race-pace sets that teach swimmers how to hold technique under fatigue.

A former NCAA All-American in the 200 back and 400 IM, Jonas understands the mental side of championship meets. He films every turn and finish in practice, then reviews the footage with swimmers so corrections stick before race day.

Jonas is also the club's college recruiting liaison, helping upperclassmen navigate visits, communications, and decisions about the next step in their swimming careers.

Maya Ruiz, Age Group Director

Age Group Director

Maya Ruiz

ASCA Level 3 · 10 seasons · Youth development specialist

Fundamentals are freedom. When technique is automatic, swimmers can be creative in races.

Maya leads the age-group program with the belief that great swimming starts with great basics. Her Bronze, Silver, and Gold groups focus on streamline, balance, kick rhythm, and body rotation before yardage ever piles up.

With a background in youth development and elementary education, Maya knows how to make hard work feel like play. Her practices use games, challenges, and small victories to keep swimmers engaged while building real skills.

Maya also runs the club's parent education series, helping families understand progression, meet etiquette, and how to support a young swimmer through the ups and downs of the sport.

Swimmer stories

Coaching outcomes

Real progress from real swimmers — drops in time, new confidence, and goals reached.

Coach Riley changed how I think about practice. Within one season my 100 back dropped from 1:02 to 58.4 — but more importantly, I finally believed I could race without fear.
